The band released its first DVD, Live at the O2 London, England, on November 10, 2009. It was later released on Blu-ray Disc on November 24, 2009.
The footage was filmed in London’s O2 Arena on June 30, 2009, when the band performed a 22-song set in front of a sold-out crowd of over 18,000 fans. In an interview with Billboard.com drummer Nathan stated, “England is really the first place we broke (…) We figured what better place to make a live DVD than where the fans have been the craziest for the longest?” The show featured songs from all four of the band’s albums, and Nathan continued by saying “we just put the cameras in the back of our minds and acted like they weren’t even there.”
A remix album has also been announced by the band, which apparently came to life after Kings of Leon Reading Festival learned that other artists had started working on revisions of the band’s songs. Mark Ronson, Kenna, Justin Timberlake, Lykke Li with her cover of “Knocked Up”, Pharrel Williams and Linkin Park among others, have been recruited by Kings of Leon and will be contributing to the album.
Furthermore, Rolling Stone has reported that the band has also been sound-checking eight to ten new songs recently, and tentatively announced in an interview with NME that they will be releasing their follow up to Only by the Night later in 2010. The band have an unreleased song, dubbed “The Devil’s Song”, “Lucifer”, “Newcastle Devil’s Song” or simply “New Song” by fans, which is often performed live.
On January 31st 2010, Kings of Leon took home the Grammy award for Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Rock Song for “Use Somebody” at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Jared Followill stated that the band would probably start recording in March. He also hinted that they were looking at recording studio in New York City, and would probably be playing shows this summer. They have confirmed they will be playing in Hyde Park, London, for one night on the 30th June 2010. This will be the Kings of Leon’s first UK gig since Leeds festival 2009. Tickets go on general release Friday 19th February, With the pre-sale allocation tickets selling out within one hour of release.
There are clues about a new album coming out. On February 23rd 2010, Nathan Followill said on his twitter ‘Getting in shape 4 record number 5 and i’m psyched’.
